川や水辺を走行する際、エンジンに水が入らないように空気の吸気口を高いところに位置するための装置です。
ディーゼルエンジンはガソリンエンジンと違い、電気による点火装置が不要ですのでエンジンルーム内に水がかかってもエンストしません。ただし、インテークからエンジン内部に水が浸入してしまうと止まってしまいます。それを防ぐための高い位置の吸気口となります。
因みに、マフラーからも水が入ると思われますが、エンジンを全開で回している限りは排気圧よって侵入しようとする水を排出することができます。
水深の深いところを走行する際は常にアクセルONで進みましょう。
When you drive a car at the river or water zone, it is necessary equipment. Normally, the engine should ignite for working and need to prevent from water. However, the Diesel engine do not need the ignition like petrol engine. Therefore, it can be drive in the water.
However, when the fuel burn out, the air should be breathed into the engine from intake. However if the water invasion into the engine with air, it would not be working well.
So, this is the necessary equipment for this purpose.
I guess. You may feel what about the exhaust? it is same but it is not equipped at upper side. If the engine is working without stop and continue to exhaust the gas, it can prevent the water invasion
So, don't release the foot from accelerator!
