Myanmar president to make 5-day visit to Japan from Friday

TOKYO, April 18, Kyodo
Myanmar President Thein Sein will make a five-day visit to Japan from this weekend to attend a multilateral meeting and hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda, a Japanese Foreign Ministry official said Wednesday.
As part of efforts to help support Myanmar's transition to democratic governance, Noda is likely to announce a restart of full-fledged Japanese financial assistance to the long-isolated country during his talks with Thein Sein on Saturday, government sources familiar with the matter said.
It will be the first official visit in 28 years by Myanmar's top leader to Japan, the official said, adding that the president will arrive in Tokyo on Friday.
